Restoring digital data after deletion or loss

What exactly is meant by the phrase digital data? Digital data refers to information that is stored on magnetic or solid state media in the form of binary code. This seemingly endless series of ones and zeros compiled to create all of the visual experience one sees when looking at their personal computer or other modern handheld device such as a smart phone. It then follows that digital data recovery refers to the restoration of this same information when it has been accidentally deleted or been corrupted by improper transfer or outside attack. In the most extreme cases, digital data can be recovered by use of sophisticated software applications capable of reading the binary code and creating from that code reconstructed original files.
